Unique one-off made for After the Storm exhibition at Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh 2016-2017⠀
"A seat of textured, scorched oak is supported by a delicate apparently fragile flowing line of ash. The bench explores the balance between support and structure. The ash spindles connecting the top and bottom rail remind us of the complexity and connectedness of life above and below the earth.⠀
Dramatic events such as Cyclone Andrea create a moment of sudden devastation followed by change and regeneration. Angus chose to combine RBGE oak with ash to shine a spotlight on Ash Die Back and Sudden Oak Death. These insidious and potentially devastating diseases are affecting our native trees and their loss will have a major impact on the thousands of species they support. Forests over millennia have had a natural capacity to recover from threats such as storms and current research is trying to understand this resilience better in order to manage woodlands to maximise resistance to disease."⠀
Started doing a couple sets beltless for squats. Got up to 305 before I called it and slapped the belt on. Definitely enforces proprioceptive (that's a word) awareness so I don't get stapled under load. I definitely think there are merits to doing some of your training with minimal gear. But if you plan to compete with gear (belt, sleeves, wraps), I suggest that you don't do all your training naked because the gear changes the body's mechanics enough to make a difference in how you execute a movement. I'll probably do a side by side comparison of this in the future for those who want a visual reference.
Kris has trained with me for half a year now. He has lost a ridiculous amount of weight and has achieved a greater physique. He was the first client that trained with me and has gained phenomenal results. It was great training with you Kris! I hope you come back soon!!
Chris starting to get to grips with the change of pace and volume, before starting with me there was a large amount of emphasis on speed work and not an awful lot of volume on the main lifts. I think this guy is going to come on leaps and bounds now his training is more specific 👌🏻💪🏼
When the set that felt the best cuts out after the second rep 🙃 oh well imma post it anyway. This is 60kgs for 5x5 🙌🏼🎉🎉rep/set PR. sorry @elitestrengthcoach for ever doubting you.. you were right.. as always 🙄🙄 On another note this means I can finally rep 60kgs 😭😭 from day one this was my goal and it's nice to be able to tick it off and aim higher
SLED SESSION 11. Challenges give a whole lot more than just reaching the finish line.
56 lengths and over half way now at 550 in total! After last weekend I'm still feeling the effects so this one was a little slower than usual at 1 hour ten minutes, but the main thing is it got done.
The greatest thing about doing challenges your a little scared by is that afterwards the things you previously thought would be don't look so challenging anymore. After our 7 hours on the mountain, 1 hour pushing a sled seemed like a walk in the park....for now anyway. Here's to hitting 600 in the next session!
A client of mine came to me looking to get stronger. So of course as a coach I said yes no problem, we can do that
I went away and wrote out a programme for her which was based around the compound movements
To start off the programme we tested out her 1RM with bench 22.5kg, deadlift 95kg and squat 60kg. From here we then started her programme
Today was the last session so we tested her 1RM again. Bench 40kg (up 17.5 kg), deadlift 105kg (up 10kg) and squat 70kg (up 10kg)
All this while doing a HIIT class and running twice a week!
