In its heyday, Detroit built some of the finest school buildings in the country. Cass Tech, Mackenzie High, Redford High. These buildings were works of art in addition to being houses of learning. As the city shrank, enrollment dropped and budget cuts took their toll and many of these buildings were closed, scrapped, and ultimately demolished. The building above is one of the last ones standing and it is under assault by scrappers and vandals. A group in the city is trying to purchase and repurpose the building and they need support. Their site with a plan for the building can be found here: https://www.opencooley.com and donations can be made here: https://www.gofundme.com/property-control-1st-round-funding If you have the means, please pay the site a visit and make a donation. This beautiful building deserves to be saved!
