This picture was taken not long before one big chapter of my life ended. At the time I already knew that something had to change, but I wasn't fully on board with the notion of what needed to take place. The thought of such monumental change was terrifying, but it would be a lie to say that I didn't end up feeling a whole lot happier when everything was said and done. 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳 I feel like I'm reaching a similar time in my life, only that this time I haven't ID'd what needs to change. What about you, any changes happening in your life right now?

The death of Prodigy last week saddened me greatly. For quite some time now, i’ve like the last of the dying breed, and Prodigy was from my era. He was one of the architects of the ideology that shaped my world vision, a poet with a rare sprint, King of the culture. To see him gone feels like another piece of something critical is now lost as well. I’ll illustrate what i mean down below
I took this picture at MIT, when Prodigy came down to host a talk about the new cookbook he was working on, and how his life was influenced by it.
In case you dont know, Prodigy had sickle-cell disease, a pain which he once described as “being stabbed with thousand knives”. Because of the disease, eating unnatural or sugary foods, even something as small as a Hersey kisses, would cause him excruciating pain within minutes. Living with that pain made him constantly agiated, which came out in his music.
Prodigy spoke about when he got locked up (another story) he was unable to eat the food in the prison because it was so bad for his body, or any human body to consume. So he had his family sense him canned goods, which Prodigy learned how to prepare for himself so he could eat healthier. Long story short, the other inmates got curious to why he was eating from canned goods, so Prodigy started educating them on eating healthy until the entire prison revamped their culinary system to offer better food choices. That experience is what inspired his cook book.
An attendee in the audience asked him about his thoughts on living with sickle-cell. Prodigy replied “When i was young, i thought it was a curse for something i did. But now i see it as a blessing. Because it helped me understand just how bad alot of the food we eat really is for your body. I’ve learned how to stay healthy, and now i’m teaching my brothers how to stay healthy, so i’ll carry this, and learn from it, y’ know?”
That’s who we lost last week. He was 42. Blessing to his family.
My next few post will be dedicated to my favorite Prodigy verses
