From Guadalajara to Oaxaca, we decided to take the inland route. Passing through Guanajuato and looping around Mexico City to Puebla.
After lots of couchsurfing and city camping, we found this refreshingly isolated campspot. In a remote mountain region lies the "Jardin Botánico" of Zapotitlán. We camped in a forest of cactuses, climbed up to pre-hispanic ruins in the morning, and were hunted by hordes of mosquitoes at night.
If there is anything I would complain about in Mexico, then it's that there aren't more places like this one. I guess they do exist, it's finding them that's the hard part.
